Champions League Round 4 Predictions – 6.11
Wednesday offers us even more fun on the stadiums across Europe, in continuation of the battle for the Last 16. Let’s check this night’s clashes and enjoy teams’ performance once again.
Zenit vs Porto
Both teams are leaders in their domestic leagues and now have to play a game, which will most likely deside who will finish second in the group behind the leaders Atletico Madrid.
Zenit overcame the Portuguese giants in the first game at Estadio do Dragao and now they host the hot-blooded Dragons at the frozen ground, called Stadion Petrovski.
Will Zenit make the important step and secure the second place with a win, or are the Portuguese champions to tangle the group, we are about to see.
Atletico Madrid vs Austria Wien
Easy game for the Spanish side and after they took the first game in Wien with a classic score, now they host Austria Wien on Vicente Calderon for a game that will secure them the first place in the group.
Not just that Atletico are in great form and are second in Spain with just a point behind after Barca and 5 clear from Real Madrid, but to be easier for the Spaniards, Austria just managed to put an end to a terrible losing streak in all competitions, after only one win in last 12 games.
We say another classic result for The Mattress Makers and Costa with 2 goals.
Basel vs Steaua
A game that can tangle the group by any means. Depending on the result that the other game in this group produces, this clas between Basel and Steaua can be the corner stone of the group.
Both teams haven’t lost a game for nearly a month and now they face each other again after the 1:1 game in Bucuresti last round. Basel will fight for the points, which will give them very good chances for continuing in the last 16, if they take something against Schalke or Chelsea next 2 rounds.
For Steaua, this game will deside whether they play in Europe in the Spring or these 3 games will be their last games in UEFA tournaments this year. With Basel in good shape and seeing what they show us in these games in the group, it will be a surprise for us if Steaua gets a point in this game.
Chelsea vs Schalke 04
One of the more interesting game of the round. Both teams made quite a game last round and even that we didn’t expect such a result in the game, we enjoyed the production both teams displayed.
Now they meet at Stamford Bridge, where it is always difficult for a team to get something, especially in Europe. Chelsea are little upset after the game in Newcastle they lost and they will surely try to change the mood for better in the dressing room with a win against the Blues of Gelsenkirchen.
Eto’o is thought to start on the top of the attack this time and it will be quite interesting if Hildebrand is going to remove the ball from the net more than once again, like he did after Torres and Hazard won the game for the London side the previous round.
Barcelona vs Milan
On of the two derbies of the round. Barca with Messi hosting messy Milan on Camp Nou. The Rossoneri are in very weak form, with only 2 wins in their last 10 games in all competitions. Massimiliano Allegri’s head is on the block and pundits already count the days until he is to be sacked.
11th place in Serie A and not so sured place in the Last 16 in the Champions League is something that would have chopped nearly everybody’s head on charge. And for everything to be worse for Milan, it is visiting to Barca next on the list, with ending the bad streak of results looking nearly impossible in right this game.
Barca on other hand are continuing to collect points in La Liga and the Champions League, even without that fabulous results like last season with a lot of goals. The tiki-taka is on display again and let’s notice that they haven’t lost an official game since the crash against Bayern in the Champions League last season. This means half a year without a loss for Blaugrana.
In last round both teams made quite a clash with chances in front of goal missed from both parties. Robinho and Fabregas missed the opportunity to score some comparatively easy balls and now both teams get the chance to resolve who is to be first in the group, with the Catalan side the favorites to do so.
Ajax vs Celtic
Giving the fact the weak form of Milan, we aren’t going to name this game the battle of the outsiders just because if Celtic gets a win tonight and Barca wins against Milan, the Scottish team will be on the second place in the group. Both teams faced each other last round and Celtic won 2:1 on Celtic Park. Now it is time for Ajax to show some signs of competitiveness and fight for their pride.
We expect hard battle and a lot of goals in this game, with the Scottish side to be our favorite for the win.
Napoli vs Marseille
First game between both teams ended with a home loss for the French side. Now they visit San Paolo with only a hope for a good performance, which giving the fact that Napoli loses a game at home once a year is tough to be imagined.
Olympique are struggling both at the Champions League and Ligue 1 in France, where they are fifth at the moment with 7 points margin from the 3rd team – Monaco. In last 6 games in all tournaments they managed to get only one draw and losing the other 5 games. This is probably enough to say that the Italian side is a favorite in this game even without mentioning their stats and form recently.
The Neapolitan side will fight for a win, which will give them all the chances they need to continue in the next phase. With three teams with 6 points in this group and the other two facing each other in the other match this night, a win for Napoli will move them to at least second place in the group for the moment.
Borussia Dortmund vs Arsenal
Like last round, this game is the top story for round 4 for sure. Borussia caused a huge upset in the North London giants and made the group absolutely unpredictable. Three teams with 6 points each, three rounds before the end of the Group Phase. One is sure – Marseille are out of the battle and they will most likely be the punching bag for the other teams in the group. If Borussia, Arsenal and Napoli want to be in one of the top 2 spots, losing points to Marseille means sudden death for them. Borussia are merciless in Germany, same can be said for the Gunners, who overpowered Liverpool in the EPL derby of the week, and even after the first game between the two teams went in a quite unexpected way, the second is even far more unpredictable. Because of this fact, we are going to give the Gunners our sympathies for a chance to return the upset to the Champions League finalist. We are to enjoy this battle of the giants and expect that the two teams will at least match their performance in the first game. If that happens, we are up to some football gala day.
